NBC has figured out a way to get women in Playboy Bunny outfits airtime during that vital primetime time slot. The network is developing a drama called “Playboy” about women working at a Playboy club in NYC in the 1960s. According to TVGuide.com, it will focus on changing sexual mores of the era and the beginning of the sexual revolution. Also, bunny tails!
But wait? Haven’t we seen something like this before?
Yup, that’s Don Draper, Lane Pryce, mean daddy Robert Pryce, and Lane’s girlfriend who works at the Playboy Club on “Mad Men” season four. Hey, imitation is the highest form of flattery!
Believe it or not, NBC’s Playboy show is the second program in development about porn culture: Diane Keaton is working on an HBO comedy about a feminist icon running a spankbank mag.
I will reserve my judgment until NBC’s “Playboy” is out, but I would be disappointed if bunny ears are the cultural touchstone of how the sexual revolution of the ’60s and ’70s went down in pop culture history.
