Dear Famous Footwear,
We need to talk.
I feel like I’ve been trying to make things work with you for so long. My friends rave about you constantly: your great prices, your huge selections, your friendly employees. I watch them point proudly to their cute new shoes and I think, “If it worked for them, it will work for me, right?”And yet, every time I give you another chance, you let me down. Sure, maybe there’s an embroidered Steve Madden clog here and a pair of reasonably priced Converse All-Stars there, but usually after my first lap around the store I feel lost in a sea of butt-toning sneakers and generic low-heeled work shoes. Two hours later, I leave empty-handed and exhausted. Disillusioned, really: how can you be so perfect for my friends and so perfectly wrong for me?
I’m a forgiving person by nature (by that I mean I have a steep learning curve) so I’m sure I’ll be back. I’ll forget about you until one day, not too far in the future, when I meet up with a girlfriend for coffee and she’ll be wearing the most amazing high-heeled boots and I’ll say, “Oh my God, where did you get those shoes?” and she’ll say something awful like, “Famous Footwear, ten bucks.” Then I’ll clutch my heart, sigh, and vow to give you just one more chance.
What it all comes down to, Famous Footwear, is that I wish I knew how to quit you.
P.S. How do you guys feel about FF? Do you have a good relationship or do you fall into the same cycle I do?
