We said it was a Lifetime movie waiting to happen. And this is why we are not big-time Hollywood producers. Brad Pitt sees far more potential in the story of the 33 miners who were trapped underground for more than two months earlier this year. His production company, Plan B—which also produced “Eat, Pray, Love” and “The Time Traveler’s Wife”—is close to inking a multi-million dollar deal to the rights to the saga. Apparently, there are just two hold-ups.
First, before signing the deal, the miners want to create a holding company that will allow them to distribute the profits from their ordeal equally among them. And second, several of the miners are negotiating to get parts in the flick. [NYMag.com]
Which has me wondering—if this film gets made, will we see an appearance by Johnny Barrios, the most famous of the miners, after being greeted by his mistress rather than his wife upon being freed? Or perhaps Brad will take the role for himself? Maybe he could even make it a meta-tale with him playing Johnny, Jennifer Aniston as his wife and Angelina Jolie as his mistress? Yeah, that’ll probably never happen.
