Teens lie. That’s nothing new. But a new study found that teens lie rather profusely when it comes to their drug use. According to researchers from Wayne State University and the National Institute on Drug Abuse, teens lied about their drug use, even when hair samples proved otherwise. Apparently, it was more important for these teens to report drug use that they believed was consistent with their peers than to be truthful. Of course, it’s unlikely that a heroin addict is going to want to be forthcoming about their drug use if everyone else in the room has only smoked marijuana. And that got us thinking: do adults lie about drug use in the same way kids do? Depending on whom you’re friends with, illicit drug use can be either a badge of honor or a definite taboo. Have you ever felt the need to tone down or talk up your drug use to fit in?
