True Religion Pisses Off Bloggers By Asking For Free Ads For BCA Jeans

True Religion has apparently been asking for what many bloggers see as shameless, free advertising. The denim company has been sending around these widgets, which promote purchasing a pair of Breast Cancer Awareness jeans, to sites, requesting placement. Writes one blogger on Fashion Indie: “I have nothing against donating money to breast cancer research, but I do have a problem with using it to get free advertising.” While True Religion plans to donate $25,000 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, that doesn’t really account for creating advertisements that use the image of breast cancer to get people to “Like” their company on Facebook or benefit from free shipping, as seen in the ad on the right. (And on top of it all, to ask other people to promote their brand free of charge.) This might just be another example of how companies jump onto causes just to promote their brands.
