I’m a little slow on the uptick here because I couldn’t care less about football players and their weenies. But! Some of you may have heard that Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre, a married man, might have been a naughty boy. Two years ago, when he played for the New York Jets, Favre allegedly sent photos of his penis to a former Jets sideline reporter and model/actress named Jenn Sterger, after contacting her through MySpace and leaving her voice mails asking to come to her hotel.
Jenn Sterger, who is no longer with the Jets either, has not spoken publicly about the alleged incidents. In fact, voicemails and pictures from Favre were made public by a third party, which the sports blog Deadspin.com purchased. Sterger has not filed a formal sexual harassment complaint — yet.According to Deadspin, in August 2008, Favre or one of his intermediaries reached out to Jenn Sterger via MySpace. The message encouraged her to speak with the Jets media relations manager who will “slip you my # or ask for yours.” It is unclear if she gave out her number or whether her number was handed over without her knowledge, but Sterger then started to receive voicemails, allegedly from Favre, in which he says he hoped they could get in touch because “I’d love to have you over tonight.”
Sterger was allegedly then approached by someone who tried to set up her on a date with Favre. She demurred, joking that if she would go on a date with him, she might end up “in a garbage can.” The next voicemails she received, Favre allegedly says, “So, in some garbage can, huh? So that’s what you think of you? Well, I’m still trying!”
That’s when Sterger began getting text message photos of penises.
It’s unclear if Favre still pursued her further, but Sterger left the Jets in 2009. She continues to refuse to talk to the press and is canceling public appearances.
On Friday, Deadspin announced that two other women claim they received inappropriate attention, including text messages, from Favre when he played with the Jets. Both worked for the team in 2008 when the Jets trained at Hofstra University and one of them contacted Deadspin and The New York Post when they saw Favre in the news last week.
So here’s the story: One massage therapist (#1) who worked with the team said Favre was obviously ogling her while she worked on another player. She claims a second massage therapist (#2) gave Favre her cell phone number in case he needed her services off-campus (which she claims is common). Instead of contacting her for massage therapy however, Favre allegedly texted inappropriate comments — “just nasty stuff,” #1 said — and invited both women to his hotel room.
Massage therapist #1, however, was married. Her husband did not take too kindly to his wife allegedly being propositioned by Brett Favre. Favre allegedly apologized over text message when he found out #1 had a ring on her finger, but the husband took matters into his own hands. “I called him on the phone and told him I wanted an apology,” the husband told Deadspin.com. “He acted all arrogant. He refused to apologize.” Massage therapist #1 and her hubby said they talked with lawyers about the situation, but were told that they could not pursue sexual harassment charges because she had been working as a private contractor.
Both #1 and #2 said they may still have text messages on their phones which were sent from Favre. Although both want to be kept anonymous, they asked for Deadspin to pass their contact information along to the National Football League and the Jets for the ensuing Brett Favre investigation.
So, what does married man Brett Favre have to say about all this? After the Vikings lost to the Jets last night, he was asked by reporters if allegations against him were true and replied, “If you want to talk about what happened in the football game tonight, I’d love to.”
