It was almost a year ago exactly when we covered the leather shorts trend. However, over the last year, the styles and options have grown quite a bit. Quilted, speckled, high-waisted and low, leather shorts are showing up everywhere this fall — and everyone has a different opinion of them.
It appears there is no middle ground with leather shorts — they just don’t have a “meh-ness” to them. We’ve heard everything from “fug” to “love” to “They look good on models.” I love the way Annika would style them: “I’m so team leather shorts…
” Kate and Simcha both love the idea of leather, but they’d rather stay in the skirt realm. Me? I love ‘em so much I went out and grabbed a pair. Styled them with a sheer shirt buttoned all the way up and a hard shouldered blazer; and you know what? My man loves them. What do YOU think?

Styling tips:
- Pair shorts with sheer or opaque tights lets you show leg with out being over-exposed
- Rock a short short with chunky platforms or an oxford shirt rather than a stiletto to keep the look playful
- Work with your body type: curvy — get on the flat front high waist to show off those lovely lines. Straight — go with a drapey or A-line style
- Go vegan: pleather is not what it used to be! With a great feel and generally a cheaper price point, faux leather is a great alternative. Check out Rachel Roy’s pleather pair for $99!
