The Boob Tube: Must-See TV For The Week Of September 27, 2010

Last week was super overwhelming with all of our favorite shows starting up again after a television drought all summer. Now you’ve got to start preparing for hibernation by hoarding popcorn and setting the DVR to record the dozens of shows you need to be watching. This week brings the season premiere of “The Good Wife” and the series premiere of “The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret.” After the jump, catch all the previews and notes on this week’s must-see shows.

The Show: “House”
Set Your DVR For: Tonight, 8:00pm (EST), Fox
Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) is back to diagnose the un-diagnosable and this time he’s not just bantering with Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein)—they’re actually dating! I’m not usually into hospital dramas, but “House” is both hilarious and informative. In tonight’s episode, House deals with a 102-year-old patient who House says has “a bad case of natural causes.” Maybe the romance will soften House’s cold, cold heart?

The Show: “How I Met Your Mother”
Set Your DVR For: Tonight, 8:00pm (EST), CBS
I found out last week that my mom has been watching this show for years but had no idea that the premise was that Ted is telling his kids the story of how he met their mother … I’m still not sure how that got past her. Tonight will be a very Barney-centric episode as Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) finds out that his mother has been lying to him for his entire life. Maybe the secrets will explain why Barney is such a womanizing hot shot?

The Show: “Glee”
Set Your DVR For: Tuesday, 8:00pm (EST), Fox
You know you’re crazy excited for the Britney Spears episode of “Glee.” All the costumes. All the music. All the Sue Sylvestor freak-outs. It’s going to be huge.

The Show: “The Good Wife”
Set Your DVR For: Tuesday, 10:00pm (EST), CBS
It’s the season premiere of “The Good Wife” and if you’ll remember where we left off, Alicia (Julianna Margulies) got a call from Will (Josh Charles) who left some romantic message which was promptly deleted by Eli (Alan Cumming) and Julianna joined her husband and state attorney candidate (Chris Noth) at the podium. Things got awkward. This season opens up with a government cover-up courtroom case, some fighting with the judge, and apparently some racy fun.

The Show: “Cougar Town”
Set Your DVR For: Wednesday, 9:30pm (EST), ABC
Last week, Jennifer Aniston guest-starred as Jules’ (Courteney Cox) therapist. This week, Jules begrudgingly lets her son Travis (Dan Byrd) go off to college and her besties Ellie and Andy convince their neighbor that their toddler has died and are brought “dead-baby tacos” as a sympathy meal. Yeah, they went there.

The Show: “$#*! My Dad Says”
Set Your DVR For: Thursday, 8:30pm (EST), CBS
I’m not sure if anyone tuned in for last week’s premiere of “$#*! My Dad Says,” but I am curious about the Twitter-feed-turned-book-deal-turned-TV-show, created by Justin Halpern. With William Shatner playing the dad who has no filter, it should be destined for greatness.

The Show: “The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret”
Set Your DVR For: Friday, 10 p.m. (EST), IFC
It’s the series premiere of “The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret” where David Cross plays (another) eccentric idiot whose boss (Will Arnett) sends him to run their company’s London office. Cross screws up the whole operation, pissing off plenty of natives along the way. But if you couldn’t get enough of his “Arrested Development” character, think of this as his spin-off show.
