Milan Fashion Week Excludes Plus-Size Designer

At a time when plus-size fashion and models are getting more attention and acceptance, Milan Fashion Week decided to go against the trend. For some reason, plus-size fashion label Elena Miro was excluded from the Milan Fashion Week schedule. The head of the National Chamber of Italian Fashion Mario Boselli said, “Some labels just weren’t in line with what ready-to-wear week should be. We wanted to champion the values of creativity to reaffirm Milan’s role in the world.”However, it seems that Elena Miro, designed by Elena Miroglio, is right in step with what ready-to-wear is, having opened London Fashion Week for the past five years. Also, the spring 2011 collection is reminiscent of the 1950s, when women were revered for their soft, rounder shapes, said Miroglio. Despite the snub, she debuted her collection in Milan anyway to a sold-out room. And now it seems Milan Fashion Week tarnished its own image by shunning a successful line. [The Curvy Fashionista]
