Reader Revealed: Look At This Vivster
Hands down, the best thing about working at The Frisky is our amazing readers. We so heart all of your witty, thoughtful, and informative comments—heck, we even appreciate the mean ones. Sometimes, we can’t help but wonder about the faces behind avatars. We decided to launch a weekly column where we learn all about a Frisky reader. After the jump, meet Vivster, one of our most prolific commenters. Please state your name, age, and location for The Friskyverse.
I’m Vivi, age 23 (almost 24! eek!), and living in Portland, OR.
How did you find the site?
I think it was from CNN links, or maybe a link somewhere else. But I do remember that some of the first articles I read were by Amelia, about her engagement.
What do you do all day, other than follow The Frisky, which is totally condoned?
I’m a product development engineer by job title, working at a major tech company that will remain unnamed to protect the innocent. Basically, we work with the actual circuit design folks to develop tests for the products that make sure they won’t die on people, and use that to improve the design. So … electronic nerd stuff.
Single. Though it’s occurred to me recently that I should actually make efforts to change that.
What is your fave post in recent Frisky history?
Well, I always love the Dear Wendys, as well as the updates. And who doesn’t love the Mind of Man articles, right? But other than regular features, I really love the articles where a writer truly opens up and talks about something meaningful to them. Even if I don’t understand their viewpoint or I don’t agree, I love getting insight into other people.
What are your pop culture guilty pleasures?
I try to avoid feeling guilty about things that give me pleasure. But seriously, I am becoming a TV addict. The list of shows that I will go crazy without is getting longer by the day. And I suppose I’m a little embarrassed by how quickly I became a Gleek. I mean, I wouldn’t feel bad about enjoying the show, but there’s definitely an inner fangirl who I have to keep hidden from the light of day.
Can you share your most embarrassing dating story? We always share ours. It’s only fair.
Hmm … I don’t have too many dating stories, but probably the most embarrassing would be the time I had a total crush on a guy in college who lived down the hall from me. We were friends, but only moderately close (hanging out a lot, but only in the last few months). And he was quite attractive … while I was a total coward about asking anyone out. So when another friend had a play she was involved in, she told me that not only did I have to come, but I had to ask the guy to it or she’d never forgive me. I finally worked up the courage to ask him, and he said sure, and I was completely over the moon. Like, I honestly thought my life had new meaning or something, I was so excited. (Cut me some slack, I was 18). Well, when the night of the play actually came, we walked over together and were chatting about life and whatnot (we had mutual activities and interests, and we were friends, so conversation wasn’t really an issue) … and when we got to the auditorium, I found out that he’d invited another friend of ours to come as well. I think I managed to hide my mortification, but it was like the bottom had dropped out of my world, because I thought I’d actually gotten a date with a guy I liked, and apparently, I hadn’t done it right, because three people does not make a date. Yes, I realize it’s not really all that embarrassing compared to stories of others, but I was 18 and it was the first time I’d managed to ask someone out on a date. Or not a date, as it turned out.
Who is your celebrity doppelganger?
I’m not really sure I have one, to be honest. Or at least, not one I’m actually familiar with.
What type of skivvies do you have on right now?
Don’t you wish you knew? *wink wink* Okay, they’re not that exciting, just black cotton. But I liked my first version better.
What is your secret talent?
How secret are we talking? Because I’d guess a lot of Frisky readers don’t know my talents. Seriously, I’m an excellent player of Couch Jeopardy, and a repository of mildly useless and slightly irrelevant information. It’s mostly because I remember random details from books or some class in high school or whatever, and that stays with me for a long time. I can also spell most of the time. (Really, I promise it’s true … M-O-S-T-space-O-F…)
Favorite book, movie, musician or band?
I have trouble picking favorites, as a general rule. Let’s see. Books would probably be the Harry Potter series, Persuasion (Austen), Great Expectations (Dickens), and the Alanna quartet by Tamora Pierce. Movie … “The Princess Bride,” hands down. I don’t really have a favorite musician/band or song … it’s so changeable based on my mood, what’s happening in my life, and the position of the moon.
Who is your celebrity crush?
Again, it totally varies according to my mood, but lately Matt Bomer is very nice to look at, and I alternate that with a crush on Christian Kane. And I would seriously LOVE LOVE LOVE to meet Nathan Fillion or Neil Patrick Harris in person. They’re just awesome.
What’s something you hope to see more of on The Frisky?
I really do miss the sex articles … most of the articles in that section seem to be links now. And whatever happened to Dr. V? I liked the informative-ness of those and I’d love to see more stuff like it!
Hey guys! Our sex articles are now filtered off the homepage for “SFW”-related issues, but please still check it out everyday to see if anything new has been added. Also, Dr. V has taken a siesta for the time being, but our girl Steph is now writing “Sex with Steph” for all your sex advice needs. — Editor
