Carla Bruni Sells Out Michelle Obama

French first lady Carla Bruni was supposedly extremely unhappy with the unauthorized biography Carla: A Secret Life, which claimed that she had extensive plastic surgery and was a man eater who still flirts to make hubby Nicolas Sarkozy jealous. So she decided to participate in another biography, Carla and the Ambitious, by Michael Darmon and Yves Derai. But it seems to me that many of the claims in this new book are just as inflammatory. It claims that her husband would be happy to serve just one term—which should go over well with voters?—and similarly describes Carla as a “femme fatale.”

But perhaps the most interesting tidbit in the book? When she totally sells out Michelle Obama.According to the book—which Carla specifically helped create—Carla visited the White House in March and asked Michelle about being the wife of the president. Michelle supposedly answered, “Don’t ask! It’s hell. I can’t stand it!”

I dunno. That sounds like a far cry from the Mobama we know. Here are my questions: How much control did Carla have over the book? Judging by the slightly unflattering title, I’m guessing not that much. And would Carla really have said this about her friend, or did this exchange come from another source? And were these words actually uttered? My guess is that Carla asked Michelle a more specific question—like “How is dealing with the Secret Service?”—to get this kind of answer. [NY Daily News]
