Hands down, the best thing about working at The Frisky is our amazing readers. We so heart all of your witty, thoughtful, and informative comments—heck, we even appreciate the mean ones. Sometimes, we can’t help but wonder about the faces behind avatars. We decided to launch a weekly column where we learn all about a Frisky reader. After the jump, meet Maynard, one of our most prolific commenters. Please state your name, age, and location for The Friskyverse.
My name is Nora, I’m 25, and I now live in the Cleveland area.
How did you find the site?
Definitely from CNN. I realized I was clicking on a lot of articles originally from The Frisky and thought I ought to check out the whole thing.
What do you do all day, other than follow The Frisky, which is totally condoned?
I work in the corporate office of a bank. I swear I’m not evil and have nothing to do with the economic collapse.
Engaged! Actually I think Wendy’s articles about her family engagement ring helped things along in that department for me. After reading those, I remembered my mom had my grandmother’s engagement ring that I always wanted. I mentioned to my then-boyfriend that even though my mom refused to give it to me in the past, when the time came she might give it to him.
What is your fave post in recent Frisky history?
What are your pop culture guilty pleasures?
Hmm … Really I think people in “real life” would be surprised that I’m so active on here, so I’m going to have to say The Frisky is my guilty pleasure! A year or two ago I used to be super addicted to ONTD on Livejournal, but I kicked that habit.
Can you share your most embarrassing dating story? We always share ours. It’s only fair.
I don’t have many because I’ve only been on a few traditional dates but … Well, I met my fiance on Match.com and our first date was probably the best first date in the history of dates. We stopped at my favorite bar, had an Irish car bomb as our first drink, then went to a hockey game. After the game we went back to that bar, intent on playing pool but we pretty much made out in a corner instead. When we came up for air and he ran to the restroom, one of the bartenders came over and taped a “NO PDA” sign to my chest. Luckily I was pretty drunk or it would have been REALLY embarrassing instead of half embarrassing/half funny. On our next date we stopped by there again and promised we’d keep our tongues in our own mouths.
Who is your celebrity doppelganger?
I’ve never been told I look like a celebrity and my man can’t think of anyone I look like either, so someone will have to let me know if I have a doppelganger!
What type of skivvies do you have on right now?
One of my standard under-dress-pants-for-work-thongs. This one is blue with white polka dot hearts
What is your secret talent?
I can touch my tongue to my nose, and not, like, barely touching it. I can totally reach the tip of my nose. I’m also a fantastic whistler. Oh and I play a Japanese instrument called the Shakuhachi, which isn’t really a secret but a lot of people don’t know about it because it usually never comes up.
Favorite book, movie, musician or band?
Favorite book is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. (I actually have a pretty big Atlas tattoo down my side). Favorite funny movie is probably “Super Troopers” and I’ve always loved “Requiem for a Dream.” Favorite bands are Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Pearl Jam, and more recently this great reggae-rock band called Ballyhoo!
Who is your celebrity crush?
Maynard James Keenan is my #1 for sure, but Evgeni Malkin from the Pittsburgh Penguins is pretty adorable, especially when he tries to speak English. I also have to say Bradley Cooper because my fiance is told he looks like him + Matthew McConaughey all the time and I have a girl crush on Wendy!
What’s something you hope to see more of on The Frisky?
I think a way to suggest articles we’d like to see would be awesome. After reading something I’ve often thought “Hmm, that’s interesting, but I wish we could get a piece that elaborates on this part of the original article.” You guys had a post like this for the newer money section, but I think it’d be nice overall. And perhaps there’s already a way to do this that I’m not aware of, but if readers could submit articles to the Girl Talk or I Have ___ columns that would be neat, too. Additionally, the more fitness/health-related posts the better! If I’m reminded I need to get off my butt several times a day, I’m more likely to go out and do it.
