The Boob Tube: Must-See TV For The Week Of August 23, 2010

Oh, television, you are a good companion. Thank you for always providing a good time and never talking back. This week, it’s all about oversized award shows: Monday brings you the 2010 Miss Universe Pageant, then on Sunday the Emmy Awards. Oh, and the season finale of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey.”

The Show: “Miss Universe Pageant”
Set Your DVR For: Tonight, 9 p.m. (EST), NBC
Last year, Heidi Montag treated us to a performance of her single “Body Language” during the Miss USA pageant. There’s no way tonight’s show could be as much of a glorious trainwreck. But, you will see if Miss USA Rima Fakih can win it all.

The Show: “The Real Housewives of New Jersey”
Set Your DVR For: Tonight, 10 p.m. (EST), Bravo
It’s the season finale and—shocker!—they’re still talking about Danielle pressing charges against Ashley for pulling Danielle’s hair. Boring. But the showdown between Caroline and Danielle? Looks priceless.

The Show: “Made: The TV Movie”
Set Your DVR For: Tuesday, 10 p.m. (EST), MTV
If you want to see some truly bad acting, just check out an MTV movie. In this two-hour-long fictional take on “MADE,” a girl wants to be a cheerleader. There has to be a drinking game we can play while watching this.

The Show: “Trouble the Water”
Set Your DVR For: Saturday, 9 p.m. (EST), National Geographic Channel
This is one of the best documentaries I’ve seen in years. It follows a couple, a female rapper and her former drug dealer hubby during Hurricane Katrina and in the year after as they try to rebuild their lives. Amazing.

The Show: “The 2010 Emmy Awards”
Set Your DVR For: Sunday, 8 p.m. (EST), NBC
It’s Emmy time again! So who will win in the Outstanding Comedy category: “Glee” or “Modern Family”? The mystery will finally be solved.
