You know how Target tries to make its designer collaborations seem exclusive, but oftentimes only one or two pieces from a given collection are drool-worthy? Well, the super retailer is trying even harder to sell you on the idea that these collaborations offer “luxury” items at an affordable price. Target is partnering with Gilt Groupe, an online shopping site that offers discounts on designer brands, to offer the designer collections before the garments hit Target stores. Tucker’s apparel in exclusive prints, Mulberry handbags, and John Derian housewares will go on sale tomorrow! Quantities will be limited. I’m feeling a little conflicted about this partnership. As most of us have found out the hard way, the quality of a lot of Target’s designer wares isn’t anything to write home about. And I suspect that Gilt’s wonderful styling will make these fashions look a helluva lot better than they actually are. That being said, I’m intrigued by the prices — $60 for a Tucker Signature Dress (photo above) is remarkable and less than $50 for a Mulberry satchel is a price that can’t be beat. I dunno. Gilt has such an amazing return policy and customer service that it would be a nightmare for them to partner on a project if the quality weren’t up to snuff. So will I check out the sales at noon tomorrow? Hell yeah!
