Hands down, the best thing about working at The Frisky is our amazing readers. We so heart all of your witty, thoughtful, and informative comments—heck, we even appreciate the mean ones. Sometimes, we can’t help but wonder about the faces behind avatars. We decided to launch a weekly column where we learn all about a Frisky reader. After the jump, meet Ginger, one of our most prolific commenters. Please state your name, age, and location for The Friskyverse.
My first name is Kyndra. I’m 20 and I live in Missoula, Montana.
How did you find the site?
I don’t remember. I know it was right when I started college and, since I was still shy and didn’t know anyone, I was spending my nights online. Some other site must have linked me.
What do you do all day, other than follow The Frisky, which is totally condoned?
Right now I’m enjoying the last two weeks of summer vacation, so I’m sleeping a lot and taking it easy while stressing about the work I need to do. Usually I’m in school studying theatre, doing shows (I work at a monthly cabaret, so I’m generally spending evenings in rehearsal, sometimes doubling up with another show), and reading comic books when I have down time. I also like to plan ways of taking over a small part of the world. My friend swears my true career path is super villainy.
Single. I don’t have any time to devote to a relationship. I do have time for casual encounters.
What is your fave post in recent Frisky history?
The “True Blood” cover for Rolling Stone was the last thing that I saw before I wrote this. It isn’t a full article but it did make me stop for a few minutes.
What are your pop culture guilty pleasures?
I don’t feel guilty about any of my pop culture pleasures, but I will admit that some are less “intelligent” or “respectful” than others. There’s “True Blood,” but that’s my most mainstream pop culture love. There’s “Doctor Who” and “Torchwood.” No shows have ever inspired the sort of blind allegiance and sheer emotional outbursts as those two shows. The thing that’s really made me gush in public and embarrass myself is my love of “Batman.” The Animated Series is a favorite show of mine, and there are a few comics that I have to buy every month. A common catchphrase in my apartment (I share it with another nerdy friend) is “Get some, Dick Grayson!” We’re fans of his in a big way.
Can you share your most embarrassing dating story? We always share ours. It’s only fair.
That’s difficult because I’ve only been on two dates. One was quite lovely, and the other was just … well, I was proving to the guy that he didn’t really know me and only wanted to date me because he wanted to have sex with me. Which ended up being very true. Neither of those were really embarrassing. I do get embarrassingly stammer-y whenever I try to flirt with women, though I have much less experience with them than men. Basically, I regress to 15 and have trouble making words. Which wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for the fact that when I talk to men, I’m all bold and assertive and blunt. The dates themselves weren’t embarrassing, but my attempts leading up to the dates were.
Who is your celebrity doppelganger?
I like to think that I resemble a young Barbara Gordon, back when she was Batgirl. I did have a few friends, back when Facebook did Doppleganger week, who decided that mine was Cate Blanchett in the first “Elizabeth” movie. But only in that movie.
What type of skivvies do you have on right now?
Sort of fuschia-ish cotton panties, bikini-cut.
What is your secret talent?
I’m a very good sleeper. I’ve fallen asleep on planes in severe turbulence, behind marching bands, in gym class, standing up, a couple of times while singing in choir … and I didn’t even miss a note! I also have a really hard head and difficult to bruise skin, which has led me to claim that I am invincible.
Favorite book, movie, musician or band?
Geek Love is my favorite book. “Secretary” is my favorite movie. My music tastes fluctuate a lot, but right now I’ve been listening to a lot of David Bowie. Somehow it took me until recently to listen to more than two of his songs.
Who is your celebrity crush?
David Tennant is my main one. He’s tall and I want to climb him like a tree. I also have an unnatural attraction to Eli Roth, even though one of my goals in life is to punch him in the face for “Hostel.”
What’s something you hope to see more of on The Frisky?
There used to be articles about “my first time” and it would be about people doing sexy stuff. I’m not big on relationships, so articles bent more towards sex than marriage are more relevant to my interests.
