Rooney Mara Wins Coveted Role Of Lisbeth Salander In “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”

The search for Lisbeth Salander is over. Actress Rooney Mara has allegedly been cast as the heavily pierced and tattooed protagonist in David Fincher’s film adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. She will no doubt go on to play the role in two additional films based on the latter two books in the trilogy, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest. She joins a cast which already included Daniel Craig, Stellan Skarsgard, and Robin Wright, having beat out actresses like Natalie Portman, Carey Mulligan, and Ellen Page. Mara is the younger sister of Kate Mara, who appeared in “Brokeback Mountain” and “We Are Marshall,” and is the great granddaughter of New York Giants football team founder Wellington Mara. She most recently appeared in the remake of “A Nightmare on Elm Street” and will also be seen in Fincher’s “The Social Network,” but is otherwise still a relative unknown, making her a wise choice to play such a unique and identifiable character. So will she have the acting chops? Guess we’ll find out … []
