We’re not above indulging in a little young adult fiction here at The Frisky, especially when it’s a sci-fi novel. I Am Number Four, by Pittacus Lore, is the first in the Lorien Legacies series, chronicling the trials and tribulations of nine Loric alien teens as they are hunted down by the dreaded Mogadorians, another alien race. The Loric teens have been hiding out and blending in on Earth, but the Mogadorians have ways of finding them. The first three have been killed, and Number Four is next, if he’s found. But he’s not the type to go down without a fight, just ask the high school bully.Attending a new high school in a small town is hard enough for Number Four without the added pressure of keeping a low-profile, developing Legacies (or superpowers), and eventually having to battle to protect himself, the five remaining Loric kids, and Earth. I Am Number Four, which was released Aug. 3, is a page-turner that will have you on the edge of your seat, and Number Four is a well-developed character that doesn’t simply function as the good to beat evil. I’m really enjoying the direction this book is taking the sci-fi genre and am looking forward to the Michael Bay-produced film, starring Alex Pettyfer and Dianna Agron, next year.
WIN THIS! We’re giving away an I Am Number Four prize pack that includes an official hoodie, T-shirt, and book signed by Pittacus Lore, Lorien’s ruling elder, to ONE lucky person, but you have to work if you want it. In the comments, tell us which of the Legacies you’d want to develop and how you’d use it for good or evil by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2010. We’ll pick our favorite response and announce the winner Friday, August 13. You must live in the U.S. or Canada to win. Good luck!
