Frisky Reader Revealed: We’re Taking A Trip To Phoenixx

Hands down, the best thing about working at The Frisky is our amazing readers. We so heart all of your witty, thoughtful, and informative comments—heck, we even appreciate the mean ones. Sometimes, we can’t help but wonder about the faces behind avatars. We decided to launch a weekly column where we learn all about a Frisky reader. After the jump, meet Phoenixx, one of our most prolific commenters. Please state your name, age, and location for The Friskyverse.

My name is Phuong (pronounced Fong), I’m 26 and from San Jose, California, but I’m pretty much all over the Bay Area.

How did you find the site?

I can’t remember which article it was but I think it was something Jessica wrote and was linked through CNN. The article must have had something to do with feminism because I honestly came to the site with the mindset that all the articles were going to be for women but I couldn’t be more wrong. I read a few articles and got hooked.

What do you do all day, other than follow The Frisky, which is totally condoned?

I do quality assurance work for a company in Silicon Valley that sells medical devices. I run tests on products and share an office with an awesome 65-year-old partner who enjoys my Pandora music! My office is isolated so I can read Frisky articles in peace while sometimes getting work done.

Relationship status?

I am in a long-distance relationship with a great gal for over a year now. The 1000+ mile distance is rough at times but I’m a tough cookie and I fly out to visit her every couple months. The good news is she’s relocating to where I live next year. Woo hoo! I sometimes talk about her in my posts but she doesn’t know I am on this site. At some point I have to break the news to her that there are other great ladies in my life I communicate to on an almost daily basis.

What is your fave post in recent Frisky history?

I am a big Dear Wendy fan and enjoy her advice along with everyone else’s responses. A lot of the issues discussed I can relate to in my own life and it’s a pleasant surprise that other people go through similar stuff.  Also, I loved Jessica’s article on spanking and wanting to be dominated, but after reading that I had a very difficult times concentrating at work for days. I forwarded the article to some of my guy friends and broke their concentration at work too. SO IT WASN’T JUST ME!

What are your pop culture guilty pleasures?

I am a former “Lost” fanatic who followed the show since the first pilot and it was a tortuous six years. I currently moved that devotion to “True Blood” and a few other shows like “Entourage,” “Royal Pains” (surprisingly entertaining), “Family Guy,” and “Glee” (still trying to catch up on episodes). The show I think is a bit underrated that is actually pretty good is “Sons of Anarchy,” as you can see from my avatar. I can honestly and safely confess that I have never actually watched a full episode of “Jersey Shore.”

Can you share your most embarrassing dating story? We always share ours. It’s only fair.

Sweet Jesus, there are so many! Probably my worst moment was when I was 17 and in high school. I picked up my fairly new girlfriend up at her house a bit early and she wasn’t ready yet. I sat in the living room waiting for her to finish getting ready and met her older brother and we talked a bit. I asked him how he was doing and he said he was having a bad day because his car broke down and he had to pay a lot of money to fix his engine. Being an immature kid at the time, I replied “Oh man, I’m sorry. That’s really gay.” (Disclaimer: I know using that word in a negative way is WAY WRONG and I swear I have never used it in years in that context.) Anyhow, my girlfriend was ready and we took off. In the car she asked me what I thought about her brother and I said he seemed like a really nice guy. She then replied, “That’s great. By the way, FYI, he’s gay.” When she told me that, I felt like a huge a**hole and was so sick to my stomach to the point I almost swerved off the road. I knew it was completely game over.

Who is your celebrity doppelganger?

Honestly, no one. I’m pretty tall and don’t think there are many 6 foot 3 inch Asian celebs out there. My 2 and 3-year-old nieces call me Kung Fu panda sometimes, does that count?

What type of skivvies do you have on right now?

Navy blue boxer briefs.

What is your secret talent?

I guess my talent would be recognizing issues and problem solving. I tend to pick up fast on situations with people or things and try to find a solution. Also, it’s not just a stereotype, it’s true—Asians are good at video games! I pick up games very quickly in general and recently I pissed off my girlfriend by beating her at a card game she’s been playing with her friends for years. I never heard of the card game but it didn’t stop me from whooping them down! Bwahahaha. I’m pretty competitive and so is she. It makes for a good time until she loses and puts me in the dog house. I am also secretly learning how to play the guitar to surprise her.

Favorite book, movie, musician or band?

I probably spend more time reading articles and sports blogs online than I do reading books these days, but I do enjoy reading books by Dan Brown when I can. “The Shawshank Redemption” and “Top Gun” are probably my favorite movies of all time. I tend to listen to more rock and alternative music but I love all music in general. Some of my favorite bands are Green Day, Third Eye Blind, 311, Muse, New Found Glory, Breaking Benjamin, and The Cure. I am not ashamed to admit that I am a big Jason Mraz fan because he is very talented. My 65-year-old partner at work has introduced me to some good music from the ’50s through the ’70s. All the various doo-wop groups, Buddy Holly, and The Beatles have made their way safely onto my iPod.

Who is your celebrity crush?

I was madly in love with Jessica Alba in my teen years. Jennifer Love Hewitt, Megan Fox (sigh, yes her), Autumn Reeser and of course our beautiful and intelligent Wendy of Dear Wendy. If I had to cross names off my exception list, Wendy would be last for sure!

What’s something you hope to see more of on The Frisky?

Articles with lists, more lists! More sex articles wouldn’t hurt either.
