Two weeks ago, Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston revealed their surprise engagement in Us Weekly, which featured them in a cover story and cheesy romantic videos on the mag’s website. But today Bristol has gone to People magazine to announce she’s ended her out-of-the-blue engagement with the father of her son, Tripp. “It’s over. I broke up with him,” she told People.
What could have happened to make Bristol split from Levi — and Us Weekly?Bristol said that on the same day they announced their engagement on newstands, Levi broke the news that while they were on a break, he might have impregnated another woman. Bristol didn’t identify the woman to People, but Levi’s pregnant ex-girlfriend, Lanesia Garcia, has been in the press recently denying he’s the father and claiming they haven’t seen each other since 9th grade, although her denial is pretty questionable if Levi seriously believed he might be the father.
Even if he’s not a baby daddy 2x, Levi hasn’t proved himself to be a trustworthy fella. “The final straw was him flying to Hollywood for what he told me was to see some hunting show but come to find out it was that music video mocking my family,” Bristol told People. “He’s just obsessed with the limelight and I got played.” (The music video is for “After Love,” a song by up-and-coming R&B star, Brittani Senser, and features Levi as a boyfriend who is pushed away by his girlfriend’s mother.)
No details yet on why Bristol ditched Us Weekly for People. But you know what? I actually feel kind of bad for the young woman. She grew up in a culture that preaches abstinence instead of practicing safe sex and seemed serious about raising her baby in a two-parent household. She may very well triumph over adversity — and I sincerely wish her the best — but it’s not going to be the easy fairy tale ending people like her mother have told her it would be.
In other news … laaaaaaaaaaaadies! Levi’s single again! [People]
