Meghan McCain and Courtney Love. Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg. Elton John and Eminem. We’re always surprised by the unlikely pairings of celebrities that become friends. But this one is just too bizarre. Guess whom Mel Gibson has supposedly been reaching out to, to talk about all the drama with Oksana, his concern over losing custody of his daughter, and his fears that his career is dunzo? Britney Spears. “Mel has been talking to her a lot. They speak on the phone all the time, usually late at night,” a friend of Brit’s tells the tabloids. And rather than running or reaching for a tape recorder, Britney happily takes the calls, blabs this friend. “Mel was one of the only people who reached out to help Britney when she was at her lowest point, and she believes that demonstrates what a loving and wonderful man he is. She wants people to give him a second chance—just like he gave her one when everyone else turned away.” Oh, but swinging an umbrella at the paparazzi is such a far cry from threatening triple murder.
