And The Prize Goes To … The Best Positive Barbie Story

Last week, we asked you to tell us how Barbie positively affected your dreams and goals. And despite what some people claim, those of you who really loved Barbie didn’t turn out to be vapid, plastic surgery-obsessed bimbos. But only one person could win the limited edition Anemone Barbie by Christian Louboutin. And the winner is … Yankee in the South for this comment:

“Barbie helped make me the woman I am today! But, I can’t think of Barbie, without thinking of my Mom. She worked to support our family, and wasn’t home a lot. Barbie was all the things my mom was to me – a professional, beautiful working woman. We didn’t have a lot of extra money, and so I didn’t have the big pink house, or the snazzy convertable. What I did have, were outfits that my mom and I made together on her days off (does anyone else remember those McCall’s Barbie patterns?); and the highrise that we put together from boxes – decorated with wallpaper samples Mom collected for me, and handcrocheted rugs she taught me to make. My imagination and sense of style (as well as my crafting and sewing skills) all came from those precious times that my Mom spent with me, and the hours of play I had with Barbie and the world we created for her in my bedroom.”
