Need Another Online Shopping Site? Maybe.

Between Gilt Groupe, ideeli, Rue La La, and The Outnet, the web is clogged with newsletters, online shopping sites, and exclusive deals, but pretty soon another one will be added to the masses. A former retail exec, Cecilia Pagkalinawan, and venture capitalist, Jim Robinson IV, have hatched a plan to launch StyleTrek, which aims to create a brand-new way to shop. Like we haven’t heard that before. But instead of focusing on established designers, Cecila plans to give those who are emerging a chance to flaunt their wares through social commerce. While the site provides an outlet for the new designers to sell their creations, it also expects a bit of a return investment. Designers will be required to chat with their fans via social platforms like Twitter and Facebook in order to facilitate a relationship with them. And in the long run, those little personal details will pay off, because if a fan recommends a specific designer, they’ll receive one percent of the revenue of sales, meaning both the fan and designer have motivation and rewards for their involvement. As for site details, there aren’t many at this point, but expect StyleTrek to get to know you the more you use it. An obsession with a certain color or designer will yield more of those results, so it’s like shopping in your favorite stores. The site is set to launch in September. [WSJ]
