Frisky Reader Revealed: RoyalEagle0408 Swoops In For A Chat
Hands down, the best thing about working at The Frisky is our amazing readers. We so heart all of your witty, thoughtful, and informative comments—heck, we even appreciate the mean ones. Sometimes, we can’t help but wonder about the faces behind avatars. We decided to launch a weekly column where we learn all about a Frisky reader. After the jump, meet RoyalEagle0408, one of our most prolific commenters. Please state your full name, age, and location for The Friskyverse.
Jen. I share my last name with an affluent town in Connecticut. I’m 24, and live in Boston but am from Philadelphia originally, so that’s where my loyalties are. I moved up here for college. And stayed for a job.
How did you find the site?
A CNN link last summer. I want to say it was an article on kissing, but I don’t remember more than that.
What do you do all day, other than follow The Frisky, which is totally condoned?
I’m a microbiologist by training, which is a fancy way of saying I play with bacteria. I study the infectious E. Coli that most commonly causes food outbreaks (but not the most recent), and it’s pretty interesting because I work at a medical school, so there’s a lot of clinical application.
Single. And content with that for now.
What is your fave post in recent Frisky history?
Well, I’ve been trying to narrow this down for a while, and then I saw it. The Chipwich article, by you, Ami. Not because I have a particular obsession with them (I do like them though), but my 6th grade science teacher used to call me “Chipwich,” so reading that brought back some great memories. That class is probably partially responsible for me getting into science.
What are your pop culture guilty pleasures?
Does The Frisky count? I get a lot of my celebrity gossip from the site. Also, I really enjoy listening to boy bands. I have a playlist of *N Sync, Backstreet Boys, and NKOTB. It’s probably my most frequently played music. Wow, I can’t believe I just admitted that.
Can you share your most embarrassing dating story? We always share ours. It’s only fair.
I don’t date much. I think it stems from being mocked so much as a child, but I’m completely oblivious to flirting, because I have a hard time believing that the guy is flirting. For example, a few years ago, a friend introduced me to her really cute male friend, the infamous Navy Guy. We hit it off and whatnot and got into a conversation about Cherry Coke Zero. He claimed he couldn’t believe it had zero calories. I went into a long explanation about how it was the same as diet soda and how that apparently has zero calories as well. Things didn’t work out between us because we were both too busy, but about six months later I was talking to my friend who introduced us. We were drinking Cherry Coke Zero and I made a comment that I couldn’t believe NG didn’t believe there were zero calories in the drink. I was being completely serious. My friend looks at me and says, “You know that was him flirting with you, right?” So, yes, how oblivious I am to flirting is probably as embarrassing as it gets in my dating life. If any of The Frisky guys would like to give me a better embarrassing dating story, feel free to PM me.
Who is your celebrity doppelganger?
I’m not sure. Suggestions? When I was younger, my hair was lighter and I was often told I looked like the Anna Chlumsky from “My Girl.” I don’t really see the resemblance.
What type of skivvies do you have on right now?
Red, cotton thong. Nothing too exciting.
What is your secret talent?
I can make any situation awkward. No matter how unawkward it is, I can turn that party right around. Also, I play the tuba.
If you could be a superhero, what would your superpower be?
Well, if I could have any superpower, I’d love to cheat and be able to make anyone I want fall in love with me. It’d make dating easier, but way less fun. I think flying would be good. It would greatly improve my morning commute. That and it might make “Iron Man” fall in love with me, which would achieve my original goal.
Favorite book, movie, musician or band?
Book? Too many. First ones to come to mind though? Siddhartha and A Clockwork Orange. Movie? “Good Will Hunting,” “Casablanca,” or “Legends of the Fall.” Musician or band? I don’t think I have one anymore. But it used to be *N Sync. Please see above.
Who is your celebrity crush?
Definitely majorly crushing on Robert Downey, Jr. And if _jsw_ counts as a “celebrity,” since he’s probably a Frisky celebrity, then him too.
What’s something you hope to see more of on The Frisky?
Those Frisky tote bags. And other Frisky gear in general. I can see myself lounging in a nice long-sleeve Frisky T-shirt.
