Eliot Spitzer To Replace Campbell Brown On CNN?
Sigh. Emmy Award-winning reporter Campbell Brown is leaving CNN. In a statement, she didn’t beat around the bush, saying, “The simple fact is that not enough people want to watch my program, and I owe it to myself and to CNN to get out of the way so that CNN can try something else.” And now, there’s a rumor going around about a very exciting “something else.” The word on the street is that Eliot Spitzer may get the 8 p.m. time slot, for a “‘Crossfire’-esque debate show.” The Spitz is not as nice to look at as Campbell, but he has been appearing on a lot of cable news shows lately. He even guest hosted MSNBC’s “The Dylan Ratigan Show” on Monday. Plus, as the laws of reality TV dictate, “If they don’t go away on their own, put them on television!” But Spitzer denied the reports, simply saying, “Nope. Nope.”
I don’t know—it seems like it might be a good way for Spitzer to improve his reputation. Not that he should be forgiven for maybe using campaign funds to pay for hookers, but he did do some awesome things as governor that shouldn’t be totally disregarded. He’s got a history of supporting gay marriage and immigration and he cracked down on white collar crime. We kinda need more of that, despite his missteps. Is it too soon, or are you guys ready for the (as of now fictitious) Eliot Spitzer show? [NY Daily News, Washington Examiner]
