Remote Control: What You’ll Want To Watch The Week of May 17th 2010

The television giveth and it taketh away. While it’s upfronts week and we’re getting to hear about all the awesome new shows that will be starting in the fall, this week also wraps up the season for many of the shows we already love. This week alone brings the season finale of “House” (will Hugh Laurie stop being a meanie?), “90210” (who will Liam ask on his boat—Naomi or Annie?), “V” (what will Erica do with her invite to the mothership?), “Grey’s Anatomy” (what ailment will guest star Mandy Moore have?), “Bones” (can we even watch this show knowing that David Boreanaz is a sleaze?), and “30 Rock” (is Matt Damon really the man of Liz Lemon’s dreams?). And, of course, “Lost.” If the trailer for Sunday night’s two-and-a-half-hour season finale (starting at 9 p.m. on ABC) doesn’t give you chills, well, you’re probably not human. After the jump, previews for other shows you will not want to miss this week.

The Show: “Gossip Girl”
Set Your DVR FOr: Monday, 9 p.m. (EST), The CW
This season of “Gossip Girl” has gotten super good, with more levels of scheming and betrayal than we thought was possible. In this episode, will Nate cheat on Serena with Jenny? Will Chuck propose to Blair even though they just, uh, broke up? And what the heck is Georgina Sparks doing back in town? Guess we’ll have to wait to find out.

The Show: “The Good Guys”
Set Your DVR For: Wednesday, 8 p.m. (EST), Fox
Let’s face it, cop shows have gotten old. But a show about small-time Texas cops in the 1970s—that actually sounds kind of fresh. Colin Hanks (yes, son o’ Tom) and Bradley Whitford star in this series, which Fox is hyping with a preview event.

The Show: “Glee”
Set Your DVR For: Wednesday, 9 p.m. (EST), Fox
Yes, I know that I include “Glee” in this roundup too often. But this time I have a really good reason. Two of them, actually. Not only is Neil Patrick Harris guest-starring as Will’s longtime rival. But the episode is directed by “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” auteur Joss Whedon. Amazing.

The Show: “Vanguard: Captive in North Korea”
Set Your DVR For: Wednesday, 10 p.m. (EST) Current
On a more serious note, if you’re still fascinated by the story of Laura Ling and Euna Lee, you’ll want to watch this special, which features in-depth interviews with both women about their nightmare experience.

The Show: Celebrity Apprentice
Set Your DVR For: Sunday, 9 p.m. (EST), NBC
It’s the live finale of “Celebrity Apprentice,” and it’s come down to Bret Michaels and Holly Robinson Peete. Bret will be there, just weeks after having a brain hemorrhage. Yes, we are rooting for him. The dude is badass.
