I took dance lessons when I was a kid. I wasn’t very good, and looking back at the Sears Portrait Studio-style snapshots of me, all gussied up in my sequins and garish makeup, I realize I looked pretty ridiculous too. I — and the rest of my jazz dance class — were never ever as, um, advanced as the little 7-year-olds performing Beyonce’s “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” in the video above. I want to be clear: these gals can dance. They’ve got the moves. But, like, isn’t this song a little weird for children to be dancing to? They’re doing some of the original Bob Fosse moves, but the rest of it is full of gyrating and rather stripper-y. And what’s up with the bordello crop tops and panties? Oy.
