Overalls: The Trend That’s About To Be All Over?
The last time overalls were cool, it was when we were 8 years old, and the Gap was making a standard denim style. Apparently they’re back, both in high-fashion labels (Chloé, Ralph Lauren, Proenza Schouler, and Cavalli, to name a few) and in mass markets. How do we know this trend is really happening? The New York Times has observed a renaissance in overalls brought about by the 20-somethings of Williamsburg, Brooklyn: “A man sported the look (ironic? postironic?) with a lion-worthy Afro, white T-shirt and Ray-Bans; a young woman on an antique Schwinn wore her version rolled up.” Did that read like a joke to you? Because we laughed out loud. Here’s the thing: If it’s hit the Willyburg hipsters, it’s already a trend that’s half over. Which might just be for the better. What do you think—is the overall look do-able? How would you make it work? [New York Times]
