Taste The Nostalgia: 1994 X-Girl Fashion Show

Here’s a reminder of the days when indie fashion was fun, lighthearted, and embracing of all different body types. Remember the label X-Girl? (If it was before your time, it’s a definite must-know just to increase your cultural cred.) The line of sporty tees and A-line dresses was developed in the ’90s by rock goddess and Sonic Youth lead singer Kim Gordon and designer Daisy von Furth. The two wanted to challenge the fashion industry’s elite outlook and high prices. Daisy’s explanation of X-Girl sums up the way we wish more people would think about fashion these days, being that, “We’re used to shopping in thrift stores … so for us to pay $60 for something, that’s like the most we’re ever going to pay … unless my mother’s paying.” Check out this footage from a 1994 X-Girl fashion show, set in the streets of Soho. We bet you’ll also recognize some fun, familiar faces in there, too. [YouTube]
