Hands down, the best thing about working at The Frisky is our amazing readers. We so heart all of your witty, thoughtful, and informative comments—heck, we even appreciate the mean ones. Sometimes, we can’t help but wonder about the faces behind avatars. We decided to launch a weekly column where we learn all about a Frisky reader. After the jump, meet TheOtherMe, one of our most prolific commenters. The Frisky: Please state your full name, age, and location for The Friskyverse.
I: My name is Isabelle. I will be 39 in June. I am French-Canadian, living in Montreal, Canada.
The Frisky: How did you find the site?
I: Please forgive me for saying this but I truly cannot remember. For my work I look at hundreds of sites everyday and if I see something I like, I save the bookmark in a personal folder so I can indulge later.
The Frisky: What do you do all day, other than follow The Frisky, which is totally condoned?
I: I am an independent worker, under contract as Art Director & Designer for a U.S. Sports Licensing Company. I work from home, which is great, and I absolutely love my work because I also deal with a lot of the legal branding restrictions that are related to the major sports leagues. My workload is pre-determined, so at night I have to make up for any time I spend on The Frisky during the day!
The Frisky: Relationship status?
I: Divorced, living alone, dating a single dad.
The Frisky: What is your fave post in recent Frisky history?
I: The weekly ones I keep refreshing my browser relentlessly for are the “Mind of a Man” articles and the “Reader Revealed”. I also love when you guys do an open thread because some of us just can’t shut up!
The Frisky: What are your pop culture guilty pleasures?
I: Oh, that would be teen movies. I have recently admitted that to myself. Movies like : “Whip It,” “Band Slam,” and “Napoleon Dynamite.” I am also semi-addicted to the People Of WalMart website.
The Frisky: Can you share your most embarrassing dating story? We always share ours. It’s only fair.
I: It would be a tie between the guy who asked if it was OK to stop at an AA meting after going out to dinner (side note: he also made a drug stop on his way to the meeting and wanted to borrow a “quick hundred” from me to do so) and having the dad of a new boyfriend pull out a pair of my underwear at the dinner table and say, “You forgot these at the country house last weekend.”
The Frisky: Who is your celebrity doppelganger?
I: Ever since “Speed” came out, I’ve been pegged as a Sandra Bullock look-alike, but I kind of have mixed feelings about it these days.
The Frisky: What type of skivvies do you have on right now?
I: Pink polka dotted peach-skin boy shorts.
The Frisky: What is your secret talent?
I: Well, I am pretty awesome at restoring antique furniture, I understand 90 percent of what I read in Italian, and I am also very good at Italian cards.
The Frisky: If you won $1 million in the lottery, what would you do with it?
I: You can’t retire with a million dollars these days so I would probably spoil my family, travel a bit and what I would love to do most is take some time off and study motion graphics and video editing. I would also probably redecorate my home (another passion of mine ) and make a big donation the Canadian Cancer society because they saved my mom.
The Frisky: Favorite book, movie, musician or band?
I: This question is so difficult. I change my mind all the time according to my current obsessions. Books: Embarrassed to say I’ve read 99 per cent of John Grisham’s and Michael Connelly’s books. Another favorite is Buy-ology by Martin Lindstrom. Movies: “The Big Blue,” “Perfume,” “Quills,” “Big Night,” and “Amelie.” Current Musical obsessions: Alpha, PFL, Soma Sonic, Celeste Lear, Emiliana Torrini, Dining Rooms, Koop, and Oh Land. I have loved Dead Can Dance, Sisters Of Mercy, Joy Division, and The Smiths since age 15.
The Frisky: Who is your celebrity crush?
I: Ewan McGregor. I’ve said it before on The Frisky, he’s my imaginary husband.
The Frisky: What’s something you hope to see more of on The Frisky?
I: My favorite video on The Frisky was “Nuit Blanche.” I really hope to see more breathtaking and creative videos. It would also be great if there were a Frisky Online Shop with cool Frisky gadgets. I would also like the style column to include more design of different disciplines. It would be great if Frisky Readers could vote for whom they would want to see revealed. Um … I would also love to see more sex columns.
