Um, PR crisis averted? If the $5000 Akris horsehair purse wasn’t the it bag of the season, it will be now. Angelina Jolie was spotted traipsing around Venice sporting hers (you can just barely see it and it’s a rather fetching shade of ecru), but lest you think she’ll wear any old luxury item on her famous arm, she did her homework first. She had her stylist phone the Swiss design house to make sure the origin of the horsehair was ethical in nature. According to WWD: “’We told her horses get haircuts just like we do,’ Akris designer Albert Kriemler said of the bag, which is made with hair from horse tails.” Uh-huh, that’s what they told her anyway. Shew! But can you imagine being so paranoid about stirring up controversy that you have to vet your purse before you leave the house? Then again, maybe she truly is concerned about those lil’ old ponies. Let’s hope it’s the latter. [WWD]
