Carey Mulligan Proves She’s A “Fair Lady”

Carey Mulligan has wowed us with her sophisticated style and serious acting chops. Now we can judge if she has a singing voice to go with the rest of the package. The 24-year-old actress is signed on to play everyone’s favorite street urchin, Eliza Doolittle, in a screen remake of “My Fair Lady.” The casting was confirmed by fellow British actress and the writer of the film, Emma Thompson. But who will play Henry Higgins? Hugh Grant is rumored to be interested, which could be a good way to make up for the just plain bad “Did You Hear About the Morgans?” but nothing is confirmed. I guess Carey should start practicing her Cockney accent and tongue twisters now. The original 1964 film captured eight Academy Awards, so maybe this is a chance for Carey to claim the Oscar that she lost to Sandra Bullock this year. You know, because if you sing in a movie, you’re almost guaranteed to win. Let’s just hope this doesn’t end up being a Pierce Brosnan in “Mamma Mia!” situation. [BBC]
