Going At It Alone: Celebrities Who Dress Themselves

While celebrity stylists have come out from behind the scenes in recent years, developing a more public role (and even becoming stars themselves), some actresses have decided they can dress themselves just as well on their own. The $8,000 a day fee some stylists command sounds like a good enough reason to pick your own wardrobe, but not every leading lady can pull off a red carpet look by herself.

In an article on The Daily Beast, writer Linlee Allen considers three stars who go without — and do it quite well. Former model Diane Kruger always charms us at premieres and events. Marion Cotillard makes best-dressed lists at every awards show she attends. January Jones wears styles completely unlike those her “Mad Men” character favors.

But these three are in the minority. And stylist Ezra Jones, who sometimes works with Chloë Sevigny, said there are advantages to paying big bucks:

“Diane, Marion and January all clearly have good taste. Sometimes, upon closer inspection, however, I notice they could have opted for a more interesting or flattering accessory, or a dress could have been altered to fit better.”
