Whitney Port‘s Whitney Eve collection got a poor reception from many of you when it debuted this month. But one woman was paying extra careful attention it seems because she’s suing Whitney for stealing her designs. Adrienne Baravetto alleges that most of the Whitney Eve collection is her creation. In the lawsuit filed March 19, Adrienne claims she had an oral agreement with Whitney and her father to design a collection for women under the name Whitney & A: Adrienne was allegedly promised an annual salary of $80,000 and 25 percent of the company in 2007. But when interest in the line grew, she says she was cut out of the deal and the name was changed. A rep for Whitney says the lawsuit is baseless. But, really, aren’t most celebrity designers ripping off someone? Take a look at the Whitney Eve collection again; it’s basically jackets, cigarette pants, and bustiers. We’ve all seen those countless times before. Fashion is cyclical, so unless Adrienne has proof that Whitney used the same exact fabrics and colors as she intended to under Whitney & A, then I have a hard time believing this is anything more than sour grapes.
