Tiger Woods Returns To Golf At A Club That Refuses To Admit Women Members

When Tiger Woods returns to golf this spring in the Masters tournament, he’ll be playing at the Augusta National Golf Club, in Augusta, Georgia, which has historically discriminated against women by never admitting a female member. Nor did Augusta admit an African-American man as a club member until 19-freaking-90. Augusta’s discriminatory practices garnered national attention back in 2003, when women’s rights activist Martha Burk staged protests — and the Ku Klux Klan showed up in support of Augusta’s sexist and racist membership practices. However, Augusta National has always maintained that it is a private club and it may admit who it wishes. It’s truly an “old boys’ club.”

Woods has played at Augusta before, so his upcoming Masters game won’t be his first time condoning sexism. In a 2008 interview, Burk even called Woods “cowardly … in terms of this issue.” But one would think after Woods’ womanizing and all that therapy he’s supposedly having, dude would finally see the light about what’s right and what’s wrong.
