Plenty Of “Lesbian Prom” Wear At Target Thanks To Zac Posen

Teen Vogue (via Shine) posted a preview of Zac Posen’s Target collection and asked the designer the usual “What was your inspiration?” question. His answer was surprising enough to get the interview picked up on a whole bunch of blogs today:

“Lesbian proms have been such a big thing in the news lately. Rather than create a fake subculture, I wanted to address things that are actually happening.” Not that you need to be gay to wear the tux; it just takes confidence. It’s a kick-ass girl who can wear a tuxedo to prom! Don’t be afraid of drama.”

Huh.While there’s no pic of the tuxedo he designed (there is this pretty floral piece that will be Target’s first “gown” and you can bet it will sell out in 0.5 seconds), we’re intrigued. Like, for example, Zac Posen reads the news? (Heh, kidding!) We assume he’s referring to the controversy over gay student Constance McMillen wanting to wear a tux to her prom, and obviously we’re glad he’s being supportive. As for not being “afraid of drama,” we couldn’t agree more as well. Too bad Mississippi’s Itawamba County School District has such a problem with it. [Yahoo Shine]
