After “Avatar” and “Alice in Wonderland,” we can be pretty sure that 3-D movies are here to stay. One that’s now in the works: “In the Beginning,” which will basically be a live-action telling of the book of Genesis. I’m wondering if the snake in the Garden of Eden will pop out and appear to be slithering around the audience’s head? Anyway, New York Magazine reports that David Cunningham will be directing the flick, which is strange because he only has one movie under his belt and it was a true stinker—hardly work that warrants being trusted with a $30-million epic. But they’ve figured out why he might have been chosen—he is the son of Loren Cunningham, who founded Youth With a Mission, which has 16,000 missionaries across the globe and trains another 25,000 a year. Perhaps they’ll be using this network to promote the flick? Apparently, there are lots of religious movies in the works, after the success of “The Passion of the Christ.” But will religious folks enjoy the good book in 3-D form? [NYMag.com]
