Model Coco Rocha has just claimed that she’s a runway-reject at 5′ 10″ and a size 4, and the fashion industry is getting more flack for its pin-thin models. Steven Kolb, of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, stood by the skinny standard and called the runway a world of fantasy where genetically svelte girls will always be in season. The problem is that while the council has set rules and regulations about age and body mass index, they have no way of enforcing these standards and don’t believe it is their job to do so. While some fashionistas don’t see any change on the way, Lynn Grefe, of the National Eating Disorders Association, thinks the change is going to come in the structure of the runway: “… they are going to have to widen the runway so this person can have a feeding tube on wheels.” Oooh, burn.
