Go Backstage At The Coolest Show Of Fashion Week

Back in the day, it was all about Marc Jacobs for the downtown set in terms of the cool kid show of the week during New York’s collections. And yes, people are still obsessed with Marc, but this season, Lower East Side wunderkind Alexander Wang has definitely usurped that status, and the feeling was palpable backstage at his show on Pier 94 (which was anything but downtown, all the way over on 55th and 12th Avenue, no man’s land in Manhattan). But Wang is such a big deal these days that editors like French Vogue‘s Carine Roitfeld and child celebrity bloggers like Tavi made the trip to see a collection that was a more grown-up and sophisticated graduation for the king of the drapey, droopy t-shirt. Backstage, which was packed to the gills with models like Natalia Vodianova, Sasha Pivovarova and Agyness Deyn, makeup artist Diane Kendel created dramatic burgundy eyes with a combination of MAC products including a sepia-hued Cream Coulour Base and brown Paint Sticks from the Pro line. And hairstylist Guido used approximately one can of Redken Forceful 23 hairspray per model to get the wet, “tomboyish, cool, downtown” look as he explained. Click through for more …
