Vivienne Westwood Wants You To Stop Buying Clothes

Most designers would never suggest that anyone quit shopping. After all, their businesses run according to the premise that the public will go out and buy new clothes every season. But that’s exactly what Vivienne Westwood wants you to do: stop purchasing things. She has a totally legitimate reason however, as this designer is thinking about the good of the environment, and not her bank statement. “We all have a part to play and if you engage with life, you will get a new set of values, get off the consumer treadmill and start to think and it is these great thinkers who will rescue the planet,” explained Vivienne. She’s suggesting that you only buy clothes when you absolutely need them, and attempt to stay away from buying things for six whole months, which is a long, long time for fashion enthusiasts. Sounds like she’s on the “fashion fast” we talked about earlier this week! [British Vogue]
