An ATM skimmer is basically a device that is put on top of an ATM machine to secretly capture your card number, and it can be used in conjunction with cameras to snag your PIN, too. Skimmers account for more than 80 percent of ATM fraud, which totaled about $1 billion, or $350,000 a day, in 2008, according to a cyber-security expert.
