In China, an unnamed 9-year-old schoolgirl became one of the youngest mothers in the world this week when she gave birth to a 6-pound baby boy by C-section. Even though her family is refusing to speak publicly about the incident, they claim to have reported the pregnancy to authorities, who are still trying to discover the identity of the father so they can arrest him. Chinese law in the province of Songyuan, where the little girl lives, says that sex with any child under the age of 14 brings an automatic rape charge and jail sentence. Here’s hoping that they find the rapist soon and vindicate this poor, young victim. But the worst part of the story is that this girl is not alone. A hospital in Shanghai recently reported that 30 percent of its abortions are performed on schoolgirls. So awful.
