With divorce rates on the rise and an increasingly cynical view on lasting marriage, it’s a wonder someone hadn’t come up with this before—Debenhams, the British department store, has just launched a divorce registry service. So now, recent divorcees may find themselves filling out gift lists for themselves, just like they did a few months/years ago for their marriages. Odd, yes. But it’s also quite practical when you think about how much it costs to set up a new life when all of a sudden, you don’t have a teapot anymore because your ex got that in the settlement as well. Not that we’re advocating rewards for splitting up, but how come traditional gift-giving is always about celebration, and not to cheer you up? [Reuters]
