If you’re a fan of fashion reality TV, chances are you’ve either fallen in love with or become very afraid of Kelly Cutrone. For those not entranced with the daily life of Whitney Port on “The City” (here’s an exclusive interview), prepare to get to know Kelly, because right before Fashion Week, she’s going to take over your television and book shelf. On Feb. 1, the public relations power house is launching her very own show on Bravo called “Kell on Earth” and, just one day later, her first self-help book, If You Have to Cry, Go Outside … And Other Things Your Mother Never Told You, will hit shelves.
Fair enough: not everyone watches MTV or has heard of the illustrious Kelly Cutrone, so here’s a bit of a catch-up in preparation for February … The now 44-year-old founded her own public relations, branding and marketing firm called People’s Revolution, and immediately put her own spin on fashion, with offices in Los Angeles and New York. She’s one of those hard-ass but fair bosses who will teach you everything you want to know and more, while accepting nothing but your best. Between managing brands and producing fashion shows, she took the basic idea of one designer showing at Fashion Week and multiplied it by three in order to give emerging designers the chance to show at Bryant Park while minimizing the cost factor. When Lauren Conrad decided to leave Teen Vogue on “The Hills,” it was Kelly who gave her a job in PR, and the world welcomed her to reality TV. Along with Lauren came intern Whitney Port, and Kelly smartly hired the reality star when she moved to New York as well. Now Kelly’s hilarious, blunt, straight-talking antics have earned her her very own show. Set your DVRs for 10 p.m. on Feb. 1. [Racked and WWD]
