Charlize Theron Is Actually Kind Of A Good Shoe Designer
We’re just going to call it now. 2009 is officially the year of celebrity fashion collaborations. And Charlize Theron just made it into the design world at the last minute by teaming up with TOMS Shoes. But while many celebrities simply think they have the ability to cull fashion brilliance from their dramatic interiors, Charlize is using her style sense for a good cause, and given TOMS’ charitable aspect, the partnership really is quite perfect. While the shoe brand already donates a pair of shoes to children in need for each pair purchased, their good deeds are only increasing with Charlize and her charity, The Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project, which serves to bring eduction, sustainable health, and recreation to those living in areas affected by HIV/AIDS. For each pair of shoes co-designed by the actress, TOMS will donate a portion of the proceeds to the charity. These limited-edition TOMS shoes are all vegan, and retail online only for $54.
“We are so grateful for their generous donation of shoes to the students that we work with,” said Charlize. “They are passionate about the kids and have been incredibly supportive of the work of the Africa Outreach Project. It’s exciting that we’re able to come together in such a cool and creative way to bring attention to the needs of many South African youth.” As for the massive tree on the side, it’s all inspired by a baobab tree, which is a common sight in Africa, tying the design and creation all back together. Here’s a bit of fun trivia for you. Rafiki, the baboon in “The Lion King” lived in one. Anyway, how cute are these? [WWD]
