Barbie’s (Still) More Fashionable Than You Are

Barbie has lived a ton of lifestyles: airline stewardess, teacher and doctor, to name a few. But now she’s become more of a fashionista than ever. Christian Louboutin already outfitted the doll with her very own red-soled shoes (even though he thinks her ankles are fat), and now Rei Kawakubo gave her designer duds. I have to admit, I’m slightly jealous of this doll. First Louboutin, now Comme des Garçons? The creation, part of the design house’s Jingle Flowers floral pattern, sold out immediately last week in Tokyo, but it’s arriving later this week at Comme des Garçons stores, and London’s Dover Street Market. Barbie by Rei is not a steal — she’ll cost collectors about $368. Not exactly a toy for little girls. Still, even though some of us feel like this whole Barbie-meets-fashion-designer trend needs to end, you have to admit, this creation is pretty gorgeous, no? [Colette]
