The Cure To Rihanna’s Pink Eye

Here’s one of those celeb makeup moments that makes you go, “Hey, that’s a cool idea and looks pretty,” but then makes you think, “How would I ever really wear that?” Surely, Rihanna’s pink eyeliner is a bit dramatic, and unless you’re going out to ’80s night (or an award show, whatever), it probably won’t fly in most situations (work, date, daytime look). However, tone down the intensity on that fuchsia, and it can become a really pretty complement to your skin tone. After the jump, instructions on how to get a subdued pink eye. [Clutch]

  1. Start with a shimmery pale pink liner, (represented by that scribble sample of a Sephora product) drawing a soft line on your upper lids. [$8, Sephora Flashy Liner in Flashy Pink, Sephora]
  2. Add smoke to the palette with a chocolate brown Nars eyeliner, lining the inside of your lower lids, then smushing the color a bit with your pinky to soften. (If you want to make this look more of a smokey-pink eye, enhance the shadow on your lower lids by smudging a bit of brown shadow just below your lashes, and in the outside lower corner of your eyes.) 3. With a thin, angled brush, coat it well with the darker pink of this YSL color palette (left hand side of the compact). Under your lower lashes, dab and gently pull the color from the inside of your eye to the out. It’s OK if this is messy; you want the pink to show, so the line of color has to be slightly thick. With a softer brush, swipe the lighter pink shade over your top lids. Top off with a thick coat of mascara, and voilà! [$28.50, YSL Double Effect Eyeshadow in Pink Chiffon, Neiman Marcus]
