Sneak Peek: Winter Kate, Nicole Richie’s New Clothing Line

Could this actually be a celebrity clothing line done right? Nicole Richie is set to launch her first contemporary collection called Winter Kate (it actually took us a few minutes to realize that this was new since she’s already done that maternity line — empire!). After the success of her House of Harlow accessories, Winter Kate seems poised to follow suit—so far a handful of luxe retailers like Intermix and Saks have signed up to receive shipments. So what will it look like? The line will naturally channel Nicole’s own style aesthetic, incorporating flowy fabrics and vintage-like prints into lots of tops. Overall, it looks like Winter Kate will have a boho-romantic vibe. Also included, according to WWD: “Slip dresses, asymmetrical short dresses, tunics and a kimono-sleeved, maxidress, which are meant to be layered with vests in cotton macramé, suede or silk, or a shrunken leather jacket.”

When talking about her line, Nicole talks the talk that we hear a lot of designers use: “Fashion should be accessible”; “[The customer] is a woman like me.” Phrases like that sound promising until you see that “accessible” means $100 for a tank top. WWD has reported some of the wholesale prices, $110 for a kimono dress and $35 for a cami, for example. We’ll just have to wait and see how much the stuff actually sells for in stores. What do you think—does Winter Kate look cute to you? [WWD]
