It’s new release Tuesday, so it’s time to take the latest tunes for a spin. This week, the Flaming Lips head back into the womb, Michael Bublé brings his retro stylings into the present, Shakira lets out her claws, and Say Anything gets self-conscious. So, let’s get into the groove, after the jump.
The Flaming Lips, Embryonic
One of the best moments of my life was my first Flaming Lips show, when Wayne Coyne rolled over the audience in a gigantic see-through gerbil-ball bubble thing. So I have been counting down the minutes to the release of their new double album, which is, in a word … weird. In an awesome, psychedelic rock way, of course.
Michael Bublé, Crazy Love
Adorable Canadian crooner Michael Bublé is back with his fourth album. The first single, “Haven’t Met You Yet,” sounds way too close to Sarah Bareilles’ “Love Song” for comfort, but I was willing to give the rest of the album a try. Kind of loved his version of “Georgia On my Mind.”
Shakira, She Wolf
Shakira’s hair has gotten straighter and her dance moves have gotten wonkier, but other than that, not a whole lot has changed for her since “Oral Fixation.” We’re still kind of digging her vibe, though.
Say Anything, Say Anything
The first video off Say Anything’s new one is called “Hate Everyone,” but evidently everyone doesn’t include The Clash, cause the song is an update of “Rudy Can’t Fail.” While the pop punk sound of this album is great, the lyrics really throw me. Though, teenagers who lock themselves in their rooms for no apparent reason should love it.
