An All-Lady Group Finally Wins “America’s Best Dance Crew”
Sorry I’m a day late on this—I rely way too heavily on my DVR. On Sunday night, “America’s Best Dance Crew” crowned a winner. For the first time in four seasons, the winning crew—We Are Heroes—is totally female. The group was founded by Hiroka “Hero” Mcrae, who moved from Japan to Los Angeles and decided to put together a crew of female dancers, even though she barely spoke English. She brought together gals who had everything from hip hop to ballroom dance experience, and somehow taught them all to pop like champions. Before appearing on “ABDC,” We Are Heroes performed with Kanye West, Ciara and (random!) Earth, Wind & Fire. The ladies aren’t sure what they’re going to do with the $100,000 prize money, but they do know what’s happening with their trophy—they are sending it to Hiroka’s grandmother, who is sick in Japan.
