Is Carla Bruni Becoming Woody Allen’s New Muse?
We’ve gotten used to seeing Scarlett Johansson play the beautiful femme fatale in recent Woody Allen movies. In his newest film, set to begin production next year, we’ll see another familiar face in that role: First Lady of France, Carla Bruni. On a trip to Paris earlier this year, the legendary filmmaker offered Bruni a leading role in his film and she is said to have accepted his offer. Bruni has limited acting experience, something that doesn’t seem to make neurotic Woody nervous. Last June he told Spanish paper El Mundo: “I would like to work with Carla Bruni. She is an accomplished artist, she is very beautiful and I am sure she would have a gift for comedy. I am sure she would be marvelous. She has charisma and is used to appearing in public.” While not exactly an accomplished actress, Carla does have experience as a singer. She had performed her songs “dozens of times” before marrying President Sarkozy, but “vowed to put the live concerts on hold after taking on official duties.” It was said to be partly for security reasons, but mostly because it’s “inappropriate” for a First Lady to be a pop star. It also may have been the quality of her voice. French music critic Gerard Delapont once said: “If she ever stars in a film, I hope her acting is better than her singing.” I guess we’ll soon see.
